WALTER HANN October 25, 1934 - January 6, 2003 On Monday, January 6, 2003, our dear brother Walter passed away while at his computer in his Vancouver home. Walter was born and educated in Winnipegs North End. He joined his father in the family business, E. Hann and Son, Builders, and constructed many homes throughout the Winnipeg area. As a member of the YMCA in 1956, Walter competed and won the Middle-Weight Power Lifting Provincial Championship in Standing Press and Bench Press divisions. In the 1970s, Walter moved to Vancouver where he resided until his recent and sudden heart attack. Walter was an avid computer enthusiast and enjoyed building and designing computer systems. He returned home to Winnipeg every summer to visit with his family and childhood friends and enjoyed frequenting his boyhood haunts. Walter was very involved in a number of associations that he enjoyed fully. Not only was Walter loved and valued by his family but by all the many friends he made in Winnipeg and Vancouver. Walters parents, Egnace and Natalie Hann predeceased him, leaving sisters, Naida Hann, Olga (Bruce) McKinnon, Lily (Glenn) McWhinney, many nieces and nephews and close friends in both Winnipeg and Vancouver. Particularly longtime family friends, Mr. and Mrs. Nadia Niechoda. As per Walters wishes, the Squamish Funeral Home will be handling his cremation. A memorial gathering celebrating Walters life will be held in Vancouver with the date to be announced. A family graveside service will be held in Winnipeg at a later date. Walter, because of your quiet ways, few of us knew how important you were to so many people. You had no idea how special you were. Rest in peace, dear Walter. We will miss you. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation in Walters name.
